OK Radio is seeking help from the audience for the Sugusivut and Teen Rockers shows.

The Sugusivut (Children’s Show) is every Wednesday from 3-4 pm, and the Teen Rockers show is every Thursday from 3-4 pm.

We need your help with recordings of your children or youth reading Inuktitut books.

Or maybe your child or youth can sing, and would want to get recorded.

Or they might be able to tell us something interesting they have done, or are still doing.

On Thursday, tomorrow, April 12th, students and staff of Jens Haven Memorial School in Nain are encouraged to wear a jersey to support the survivors, families and friends of the Humboldt Broncos, and to honour the victims of the crash.

If you don’t have a jersey, wear green and yellow, the Broncos’ colours.

You can wear anything from your favourite sports team (t-shirt, hoodie, etc…), or your own uniform.

So please wear something that shows your support for the Broncos and their families.

The Marine Institute of Memorial University is currently recruiting candidates to take part in four month internships in Belize through the International Aboriginal Youth Internships (IAYI) initiative.

Heather Dicks, an International Program Officer with the Marine Institute with MUN is in Nain.

She had already visited the Jens Haven Memorial School this morning.

Dicks will be visiting Academy Canada this afternoon at 2 pm.

She will once again have an information session at 7 pm tonight at the Pulâpvik Room at the Parks Canada Building, and this is open to everyone.

Retired Judge Jim Igloliorte is resuming his visit to the communities on the North Coast.

He was contracted by the Federal Government to visit Residential School Survivors in their towns.

Igloliorte says the purpose of these visits is collect their past stories and experiences they had during their stay at a residential school.

OK Radio spoke with Igloliorte yesterday, and he said he will be in Nain today.

He is being accompanied by three managers from Ottawa.

Igloliorte says they had to re-schedule their visit to Makkovik and Rigolet, and his last visit will be in St. John’s, NL.

The Annual Ron Pottle Dog Team Race took place in Rigolet, NL this past weekend.

OK Radio spoke with Inez Shiwak, one of the organizers for the race.

Shiwak says there were 8 racers in total.

Here are the results:

The First place prize of $500 went to Carl Rumbolt of Mud Lake.

The Second place prize of $400 went to Junior Rumbolt, also from Mud Lake.

And Guido Rich from Rigolet claimed the third place prize of $300.

The racers that followed the first three each won $200.

Dylan Shiwak from Rigolet had the Best Looking Dog Team, and he won an army backpack.

Guido Rich was named the Most Sportsmanlike, and he won another prize of $200.

All of the racers also received prizes which included a sleeping bag, an ammunition box, a lantern, and a hunting knife.

Shiwak adds that she would like to thank everyone that helped in any way to support this race.

The OKâlaKatiget Society has a job opening for a Television Producer.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

– Identifying story ideas and conducting research
– Operating camera, lighting and audio equipment
– Planning and conducting interviews and sources
– Outlining and writing scripts for editing
– Transcribing
– Digitally editing film on avid software

The closing date is Wednesday, April 25, 2018, and applications should be forwarded before 4:30 pm.

Preferences will be given to Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement.

Applicants are preferred to be bilingual in Inuktitut and English as well.

The OKâlaKatiget Society celebrated the 10th Anniversary of being in our building yesterday.

We had a couple of quizzes throughout our show yesterday.

Throughout the whole day, there were 19 right guesses.

Here are the lucky winners of the two quizzes that we had:

Katie Emelia Winters won the first prize of an APTN fleece coat.

Gina Dicker won the second prize of an APTN t-shirt and a winter hat.

Then there were 8 more prizes of a winter hat each for those who had guessed the right answers.

Derrick Dicker, Martin Obed, Katie Emelia Winters, Sue Bennett, Verona Kautjasiak, Matilda Dicker, Sue Maggo, and Matilda Lampe were the winners of the other hat prizes.

The Marine Institute with Memorial University (MUN) in St. John’s, NL is looking for youth to apply for the International Aboriginal Youth Internship (IAYI) initiative.

Heather Dicks is an International Program Officer with the Marine Institute with MUN.

She says that she will be travelling to Hopedale today, and will be in Nain tomorrow, Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Dicks says that the interns will work with the National Institute of Culture and History and Galen University in Belize for 4 months.

To be eligible, here are some requirements:

Be legally allowed to work in Canada, be of Aboriginal affiliation, and be between the ages of 18 to 35.

All travel and accommodations will be paid as well.
