John Jararuse’s Story (Audio)

In the past Inuit hunted and harvested without the requirement of licenses.

Those years of license free hunting of land animals and fishing the waters are gone.

John Jararuse is an elder and a resident of Nain.

He remembers going north of Nain to his homeland in Hebron.

And how they would go hunting and fishing for their food and travel on their dogteams back then.

Jararuse   attended a workshop that was held for seniors in Nain a couple of weeks ago.

He says the seniors were given a chance to speak on their behalf on what and how they lived their life.
