First Come, First Served for Polar Bear Licenses

Its first come, first served for beneficiaries applying for a polar bear license this year.

Rebecca Wilcott is the Director of Renewable Resources for the Nunatsiavut government.

She says the licenses will be distributed by the local Conservation Officers on a first come, first served basis.

There are three licenses available to beneficiaries in each of the communities of Nain and Hopedale.

Two are available in each of the other Nunatsiavut communities.

People are allowed to hold the license for a seven-day period.

The polar bear season opens on Wednesday in Nunatsiavut.

It closes on June 30 or earlier if the quota has been filled.
