Year End Review For 2014 Pt. 1

Here is some of the year end news and events for 2014:

It was an earlier freeze up for the north coast communities again this season.

In Nain the harbour froze on Dec 6, almost a week earlier than last year’s December 11.

So with that there was still some freight to be shipped to the communities.

The MV Northern Ranger and the MV Astron travelled back to the communities.

Both of the boats made it to their destination by breaking through the new ice.

This year in June the north coast communities were notified by Eastlink Cable TV that they were pulling out.

The communities saw the last of their TV shows a month later.

The 11th annual Inuktitut Speak Off kicked off in Nain with 7 students participating from 4 of the north coast communities.

The winners were: first place- Mary Andersen of Nain, 2nd place went to Charly May Dyson of Makkovik, and Brenda Flowers of Hopedale took 3rd place honours.

Stay tuned for more of our year end reviews this week and the week after.
