Woman with 105 Prior Convictions Accused of Stabbing Man

A Happy Valley Goose Bay woman is facing one charge of assault with a weapon after she allegedly stabbed a man with a broken beer bottle on April 24.

The accused, 49 year old Emily Jararuse, is no stranger to the court system.

Between 1986 and 2014, she racked up 105 convictions on her provincial criminal record.

That record displays a violent past, including five counts of assault with a weapon or imitation, four counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, nine counts of assaulting a peace officer, five counts of assault, and single counts of possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose, robbery, armed robbery, and robbery with violence.

She also has 26 convictions for breaching her conditions of undertaking or recognizance, and two convictions for escaping from lawful custody.

The original RCMP news release on the latest assault said there were two stabbing victims in the incident.

On April 29, however, Sgt. Howard Fitzpatrick of the Happy Valley Goose Bay RCMP clarified that statement, noting there was only one victim.

According to Fitzpatrick, a man was stabbed in the back; He was treated at the hospital and later released.

Jararuse made appearances in Happy Valley Goose Bay Provincial Court on April 27 and 28, but her case was set over both times.

On April 29, Jararuse appeared again before the court. After sitting on the bench, she kept her head lowered towards the floor, sobbing continuously.

Judge John Joy set Jararuse’s bail hearing for May 15 in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
