Vehicle Rollover Accident

Sheshatshiu RCMP is still investigating the single vehicle rollover that happened last evening.

RCMP was dispatched to a reported single vehicle accident between Happy Valley Goose Bay and Sheshatshiu at about 9:15 pm, on October 30th, 2014.

When investigators arrived, they observed a white Crown Victoria had left the roadway and overturned onto its roof.

The two occupants were extricated from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life.

While the accident is still under investigation, it does appear that the roads were icy and the temperature was close to freezing.

The driver of the Crown Victoria was in the process of passing another vehicle when it encountered icy conditions and the driver lost control resulting in the vehicle subsequently leaving the roadway, rolling and coming to rest on its roof.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The 71 year old male driver was not seriously injured but the 76 year old female did suffer some broken bones.

Both occupants were taken to hospital in Happy Valley Goose Bay by Emergency Medical Services.

RCMP wants to remind drivers to drive according to road conditions and to be cautious of lower temperatures that are optimal for icy conditions to develop.
