Underwater Camera to Be Used in Search for Missing Boy

An underground camera will be used in the search for the missing Makkovik boy.

The equipment will be used to investigate an area where snowmobile tracks were found leading to the edge of the ice on Monday.

The tracks were found in an area outside of Makkovik known as Strawberry Head.

The underwater camera will be used to look into the water which is about 90 feet deep in that area.

The equipment is expected to arrive in the community on Tuesday.

Corporal Kimball Vardy says they investigated the area further to search for exit tracks with no success.

Searchers also investigated nearby cabins in areas such as Manaks, Big Bight and Adlavik.

Corporal Vardy says the good news is that the weather is favourable for the search effort.

The 14-year old boy was reported missing on Sunday after he failed to make it to his grandmother’s home.

Communities along the north coast have come together to provide support to the effort and the missing boy’s family.

Donations came in from all over Labrador on Monday to help fly the boy’s family into the community.
