SOI And POLAR Launch Grant Program To Benefit Arctic Communities

Students on Ice (SOI), in partnership with Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR), have launched the POLAR Inspiration Grants program to support initiatives that benefit a community, area or region in the Canadian Arctic.

Each proposed project is eligible for a grant of up to $5,000.

To be eligible, applicants must be from Northern Canada and participated as a student on an SOI expedition; propose a project that benefits a community, area or regions of the Canadian Arctic; form a project team that includes a SOI-approved mentor(s); and complete the project before March 1, 2017.

“Students on Ice expeditions are life-changing journeys that help to reconnect Arctic youth to their home; bridge cultural barriers; and gain new perspectives through hands-on learning and discussions about the environment, health and wellbeing, culture and the arts,” says Arctic Youth & Partnerships Manager Caitlyn Baike.
“Through the POLAR Inspiration Grant program, SOI provides northern alumni an opportunity to leverage their experience on expedition and SOI’s global network of alumni, educators and mentors to benefit the Canadian Arctic.”

The POLAR Inspiration Grants are an initiative of SOI’s Arctic Youth & Partnership program, developed to support SOI’s Arctic alumni through educational and professional opportunities, as well as the resources and mentorship to make a difference in their communities.

Funded by Polar Knowledge Canada, the POLAR Inspiration Grant Program will provide a total of $15,000 in funding for SOI Arctic alumni-led initiatives.

All interested alumni must submit an Expression of Interest to caitlyn@studentsonice.com by January 15th, 2016.
