Rigolet to Lose DFO Office

The community of Rigolet will be losing its Department of Fisheries and Oceans office.

AngajukKak Charlotte Wolfrey is worried about the negative implications the loss of the position will create.

Wolfrey is worried federal laws and regulations may not be followed by locals or visiting outsiders in the absence of a fisheries officer.

She’s wondering who will enforce those regulations from there on out.

The other implication is the loss of a valuable job in such a small community.

The DFO office has provided employment to Rigolet for around 30 years.

The office is expected to close in 2014.
