Recreation Grants Within the Province

Approximately $333,000.00 has been invested in Recreation Programming within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

More than 90 communities will receive these funds for their activities this year.

Funds are provided by the Community Development Recreation Grants Program through the provincial government.

The grants are being provided to communities to enhance physical activity.

And to encourage people to participate in local recreation programs and services offered by their respective communities.

This also helps the communities to offset any other cost related to develop and implement programming.

Two of the Nunatsiavut Inuit Community Governments’ Recreation Departments have received grants.

The Ujakakutit Recreation Department in Hopedale has received $2000.00.

And the Makkovik Recreation Department has been granted $4500.00.

According to a news release, smaller communities within the province apply for these funds annually.

The program was started in 2007.
