Coastal Ice Conditions

OKâlaKatiget Radio Department contacted each of the north coast communities about their ice conditions.
We spoke to Jack Shiwak, AngajukKâk of Rigolet.
He says the ice never freezes over in his community.
But Lake Melville and Double Mer froze over a week and a half ago.
Shiwak says the ice conditions may not be good to travel, because the Astron just went through the ice.
He says people travel on the shore line, before they cross 15 or 20 kilometers to Double Mer.
Shiwak adds for people who do travel on the ice to be careful when traveling.
In Hopedale we spoke to Ryan Winters, who is a hunter in his community.
He says the ice froze over two weeks ago and the ice is 20 inches thick.
Winters says they can only travel across the harbour.
OK radio will get the other ice conditions on the north coast later on this week.
