The Nunatsiavut Government (NG) was looking for a variety of items from the general public recently to showcase in the exhibits of the Illusuak Cultural Centre.

OK Radio spoke with Chantelle Andersen, Art Program Coordinator for NG, to get an update on what items have been collected so far.

Andersen says that they now have four of the seven items that they have been looking for.

Toby Andersen donated the caribou hide and a stretching board for skins, a sealskin was donated by Elsie Broomfield, and Chesley Webb donated a fox pelt.

They are still looking for a seal hunting shield, a tent canvas, and a spin top made from a thread bobbin.

Here is the Air Inuit Special Easter flight schedule for April 2018:

According to the Air Inuit website, the first special flight is scheduled for this Thursday, March 29, 2018.

The first Air Inuit flight will depart from Kuujjuaq at 8:25 am, and then arrive in George River at 9:05 am.

It will then depart again at 9:20 am.

Air Inuit will arrive in Nain at 11:45 am, and then depart at 12 noon.

The second flight is scheduled for Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

The flight will depart from Kuujjuaq at 8:25 am, and then arrive in George River at 9:05 am.

It will then depart again at 9:20 am.

The flight arrives in Nain at 11:45 am, and then departs at 12 noon.

Today marks the 43rd anniversary of the Labrador Inuit Association (or LIA).

LIA was officially established in October, 1973, but it wasn’t formally recognized until it was incorporated on March 26, 1975.

The Nunatsiavut Government (NG) observes the incorporation and importance of the LIA with a statutory holiday.

The LIA transitioned into the Nunatsiavut Government on December 1, 2005, following the ratification of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement in June, 2005.

Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement will head to the polls on May 1, 2018 to elect Ordinary Members to the Nunatsiavut Assembly.

Polls will be open from 8 am to 8 pm Atlantic Standard Time.

The Nunatsiavut Government is encouraging Beneficiaries to seek nominations, and to vote in the general elections.

Ordinary Members are chosen from the Constituencies of Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Makkovik, Rigolet, Upper Lake Melville, and Canada.

Two seats are available in Nain, Upper Lake Melville and Canada, while one seat is available in all other Constituencies.

Nominations for candidates will close at 2 p.m. AST tomorrow, March 27, 2018.

The Ethel Pijogge dog team race will be off and running in Hopedale on April 6th, 2018 this year.

Danielle Pottle is one of the organizers.

She says there will be other activities going on as well, while the dog team race is going on.

Pottle says the prizes for this year are at least the following:

The First place winner will take home $500.00.

The Second place winner will receive $300.00.

And the Third place winner will win $200.00.

All the participants will receive $100.00 as well.

Pottle adds someone will receive $200.00 for the best looking dog team.

The Annual Jens Haven Memorial School (JHMS) Spring Carnival here in Nain, NL will be held from March 28 to March 29, 2018 at noon.

We spoke to the principal of JHMS, Jake Larkin, today, and he says there are many events planned.

The students will be participating in events such as an egg hunt, events in the gym, snowy bingo, relay races outside of the school, and tug of war.

There will also be an award ceremonies held.

Larkin adds these events should be a lot of fun for the kids.
