Angela Amarualik Inuit Singer (Audio)

Angela Amarualik is an Inuit singer from Igloolik, Nunavut.

She says she wrote her first song in 2016, made her own album, and will be starting her first tour in October.

She also says her main focus is to sing her songs in Inuttitut.

After School Program Registration

The After School program registration will take place next week.

Registration will take place on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 6pm located at the Jeremias Sillitt Community Centre.

There are 15 seats available for children in Kindergarten to Gr. 3 and 15 seats available for children in grades 4-7.

This is a first come-first serve basis and please bring your child’s MCP.

Labrador Friendship Center Back to school program

The Labrador Friendship center has been handing out school supply donations to families for the past 12 years, from the “Back to School Program”.

Patricia Maloney is the Community Outreach worker with the Labrador Friendship Center.

On Friday August 30 they will be handing out school bags to families in need.

She says every year in August they hand out school supplies to families who are on social assistance and to single parents in the Upper Lake Melville area.

Families who need help in providing school supplies can call the Labrador Friendship Center and get an application form.

Nain DHSD school bag donation

The Nain Department of Health and Social Development will be handing out School Bags to families who need them for that extra help before the school year.

The Nain DHSD has been doing this now for 3 years.

Supporting families who need the extra help before the school year starts.

17 boxes of school supplies were donated this year to help families in Nain.

So, families who need that extra help can drop by to the DHSD this afternoon, to get school supplies for your children.

Splash’ N Boots tours Nunatsiavut

The Nunatsiavut Government is happy to announce that the Tree House “Splash’ N Boots” You, Me and the Sea Tour will be travelling all along the North Coast.

The times and locations are yet to be announced.

Sunday, September 1, 2019 they will begin their tour in Nain.

Monday, September 2, 2019 they will travel to Hopedale.

Tuesday, September 3, 2019 they will travel to Postville.

Wednesday, September 4, 2019 they will travel to Makkovik.

And last on Thursday, September 5, 2019 they will end their tour in the community of Rigolet.

Nain’s Very First Music Festival (Audio)

The very first Tusannituk Music Festival was a huge success this year in Nain.

Lisa Ivany is the Recreation Director for the Nain Inuit Community Government.

This was an amazing turn out, with special guests and musicians such as local performers.

There were also other activities during this event such as a movie night, a New Name contest, a Photo Contest, a Team Band Trivia, the square dance competition, and much more.

Huge thanks to the NICG Recreation Department, Ullapitsaijet, and the Nain Volunteer Fire Dept. for making this Music Festival a memorable one.

Becoming an outdoors Woman Workshop

Registration is now open for the 2019 becoming an Outdoors Woman Workshop in Labrador.

The upcoming becoming an Outdoors Woman workshop will be held at the Christian Youth Camp, Gosling Lake in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

This workshop will run from September 13-15, 2019.

The Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshop is an opportunity for women aged 18 and older to enhance their outdoor skills.

Volunteer instructors share their expertise and provide instruction in a safe, supportive, and non-competitive atmosphere.

Participants may choose from a wide range of hands-on courses including firearm use, outdoor survival, and angling.

Since the first Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshop 20 years ago, more than 40 events have been held with more than 2,000 women having participated.

The workshop fee is $275.00 and includes accommodations, meals and course materials.

Imappivut Expedition Community Event

The Immappivut Expedition 2019 will hold a Community Event today.

August 27, 2019 located at the JS building, starting from 6-8pm.

Oceana Canada and the Nunatsiavut Government will explore culturally and ecologically significant areas of Nunatsiavut.

Once the team returns, those onboard will share their experiences and what it means to them, their culture, and to the community.

Join in for an evening of storytelling; display of coral samples and underwater video footage, and show and tell from community members and guests onboard the leeway Odyssey, as they return from their expedition to Hebron, Okak, and Nain area.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided along with prizes as well.
