Lela Evans (Audio)

MHA Lela Evans has been travelling to the North Coast Communities to work on the issues with her constituents.

She says she travelled to Goose Bay, Makkovik, and is making her way to Hopedale and Postville.

Evans says people are worried about the shipping with the new vessel, Kamutik W, where there have been many delays due to weather conditions.

She also speaks about people’s concerns with the Muskrat Falls Flooding.

Nain’s 1st Tusannituk Music Festival (Audio)

Yesterday, Sunday, August 25, 2019 was the last day of the 1st Tusannituk Music Festival here in Nain.

There was an open mic for local performers, the Nain Brass Band, Pastor Junior Andrews, David Hart, the Flummies, and Saali Keelan and his band.

We had two of our radio producers record this event and says it was no doubt, a successful one.

There were also other activities during this event such as a movie night, a New Name contest, a Photo Contest, a Team Band Trivia, the square dance competition, and much more.

To kick off this year’s Tusannituk Music Festival, there were some fireworks displayed by the Nain Ball Field.

Huge thanks to the NICG Recreation Department, Ulapitsaijet, and the Nain Volunteer Fire Dept. for making this Music Festival a memorable one.

Funding announcements for Nunatsiavut (Audio)

Yvonne Jones, MP of Labrador, with Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Indigenous Services was in Nain on August 24, 2019 for series of announcements.

OK Radio was there to record the announcements.

Funding was announced for the Community Sheds projects for Nain, Hopedale, and Rigolet by Minister O’Regan.

MP Jones announced funding for the Annual Radio and Television broadcasting programs for OKâlaKatiget.

There was also funding for Maritime Information System for Nunatsiavut, additional funding for housing in Nunatsiavut, and funding for the next phase for the study for the new airstrip in Nain.

TV Producer AD

The OKâlaKatiget Society has a job opening for a Television Producer.

This position is a full time permanent position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Identifying story ideas and conducting research
• Operating camera, lighting and audio equipment
• Planning and conducting interviews and sources
• Outlining and writing scripts for editing
• Transcribing
• Digitally editing film on Avid software

The closing date is Wednesday, September 4, 2019 and resumes should be forwarded before 4pm.

Preferences will be given to Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement.

Applicants are preferred to be bilingual in Inuktitut and English as well.

Imappivut Expedition Community Event

Oceania Canada and the Nunatsiavut Government will explore culturally and ecologically significant areas of Nunatsiavut.

Once the team returns those onboard will share their experiences and what it means to them, their culture, and to the community.

The Imappivut Expedition 2019 will hold a Community Event on Tuesday, August 27, from 6-8pm located at the JS building.

Join in for an evening of storytelling and show and tell (display of coral samples and underwater video footage) from community members and guests onboard the leeway Odyssey as they return from their expedition to Hebron, Okak, and Nain area.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided along with prizes as well.

IlinniaKatigennik Show

The IlinniaKatigennik Show will be starting again tomorrow.

The Nunatsiavut Culture, Recreation and Tourism are looking for Inuttitut speakers that are interested in telling stories, singing songs, and reading books.

Nigivik Center Land Based Program

The Nigivik Centre is still looking for three youth ages 18-30 to attend a land based program.

Shelly Dicker is the community food worker for the Nigivik Centre.

She says that they have a Boat Charter all ready for this trip with Edward Sillitt and William Ikkusek.

They will go off on the land to go berry picking, Bake Apple picking, or fishing once all the names are filled, along with 2 workers.

Makkovik Fish Plant Update

Yesterday we had an update from the Nain fish plant, here’s the update from the Makkovik fish plant.

Today the employees in Makkovik fish plant are busy with Turbot.

Junior Andersen is the Production Manager for the plant.

He says there are 37 employees working at the fish plant and to this date 94,168lbs of Turbot has been landed.

Andersen adds there are 4 Turbot boats fishing.

Splash’ N Boots tours Nunatsiavut

The Nunatsiavut Government is happy to announce that the Tree House “Splash’ N Boots” You, Me and the Sea Tour will be travelling all along the North Coast.

The times and locations are yet to be announced.

Sunday, September 1, 2019 they will begin their tour in Nain.

Monday, September 2, 2019 they will travel to Hopedale.

Tuesday, September 3, 2019 they will travel to Postville.

Wednesday, September 4, 2019 they will travel to Makkovik.

And last on Thursday, September 5, 2019 they will end their tour in the community of Rigolet.
