Polar Bears and 20-Foot Waves Encountered During Paddling Expedition (Audio)

It was quite a month on the Labrador Sea for Noah Nochasak and his fellow Kayakers.

Nochasak returned home to Nain from the Torngat Mountains this past weekend after nearly a month of paddling.

He was joined by Dr. Lev Tarasov, an Associate Professor with the Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Dr. Rod MacKinnon, a Nobel Prize-winning Professor at the Rockefeller University in New York.

Nochasak says there was no shortage of excitement during their trip.

At one point a polar bear charged through the fence which surrounded the group’s tents.

It was one of many polar bears the group encountered during their expedition.

Noah says they also had to deal with the harsh elements which included lots of rain and waves measuring over 20 feet.

The group was forced to ditch their original plan of paddling 950 kilometres to George River, Nunavik, due to a number of factors.
