Northern Ranger’s First Trip Delayed

A needed refit has delayed the departure of the MV Northern Ranger.

It was announced earlier this week that the vessel would be departing Happy Valley-Goose Bayon Friday for the first time this season.

The provincial government is now saying that the Northern Ranger requires a refit.

An update will be provided once the work is complete.

The vessel was supposed to be visiting ports in Black Tickle, Makkovik and Rigolet.

Other communities were to be added as ice conditions allowed.

The marine terminal in Happy Valley-Goose Bay began accepting freight on June 6.

The provincial government has yet to announce who will be operating the other freight vessel for coastal Labrador.

The government made a request for proposals back in March.

The deadline for submitting proposals was April 16.

The provincial Minister of Transportation and Works stated in the House of Assembly this week that they’re in the final stages of reviewing five different proposals.

The contract is for a 15-year term.
