Northern Ranger in Dry-Dock

The 2016 shipping season is over, and one of the workhorses of the north coast service is already getting ready for 2017.

MV Northern Ranger is on dry-dock in St. John’s, NL as part of the regulatory requirement that it be dry-docked for inspection and maintenance every two years.

Getting the Northern Ranger onto dry-dock allows inspectors to assess the vessel under the waterline.

That includes the propellers, the hull, rudder, bow thrusters, and stern thrusters.

During this stint at the dockyard, propeller blades are being machined, a rudder pin will be replaced, and the hull will be painted.

The Northern Ranger will be off dry-dock in the coming weeks, and will steam to Lewisporte, NL for overwintering.

Dates for the start of the 2017 North Coast service will be announced in the spring.
