National Film Board Translating Old Footage from Labardor (Audio)

The National Film Board of Canada is taking footage shot in Inuit regions and translating them into the Inuktitut language.

Julie Huguet is the board’s Project Manager.

She says the footage was shot in the four Inuit regions including Nunatsiavut.

Some of the footage taken in Labrador goes as far back as 1944.

Huguet says there are 110 films that were shot in Nain and the former community of OKak.

The National Film Board is looking for local partners to help them translate the footage into the Labrador Inuktitut dialect.

Huguet says they have been working with the OKâlaKatiget Society and the Torngasok Cultural Centre to carry out the work.
