LIDC Summer Projects Gearing Up

The Labrador Inuit Development Corporation is getting many of their summer projects into gear.

James Thorbourne is the LIDC’s General Manager.

He says the PostLumber sawmill has been in operation for about month in Postville.

Four employees have been hard at work crushing rock and constructing core boxes.

Thorbourne says there have been a few problems in delivering marine services to Nunatsiavut during their first season so far.

The LIDC has partnered with CAI Logistics to form CAI-Nunatsiavut Marine.

The partnership holds the contract to deliver the marine freight and passenger services to this region.

He says there have been problems occurring while offloading from the MV Dutch Runner.

Both groups are trying to solve that problem before the vessel’s next trip up the North coast.

Thorbourne says the quarry at Ten Mile Bay will open later this month.

The LIDC will be carrying out exploration drilling to determine the quality of the stone.

Thorbourne adds the kangidluasuk base camp at St.John’s Harbor near the Torngat Mountains National Park is also set to begin operating later this month.
