MHA Edmunds Addressing EI Concerns

The MHA for the Torngat Mountains District is hoping to meet with the federal government to discuss a number of concerns he has with Employment Insurance.

MHA Randy Edmunds says he has been receiving a high number of concerns from his constituents who are having problems receiving their EI benefits.

The concerns include an increased amount of hours needed to qualify for the benefits.

Many people have been rejected because they do not have the hours needed to qualify for EI.

A reduced amount of staff at federal offices across the province have also increased the waiting time for people applying for employment insurance.

Edmunds says the federal government reduced the number of staff at the offices because they believed there were too many staff across the province.

The MHA says this should not be happening to these people who depend on the benefits for their livelihood.

He says he’s trying to arrange a meeting with Labrador MP, Peter Penashue, to discuss the concerns and hopefully find a solution.
