Hopedale PCB Cleanup Finished for this Year

The cleanup of PCBs in Hopedale has come to a stop for this year.

Wayne Piercy is the AngajukKak of the Inuit Community Government.

He says the work was put to a halt, because a barge will not be able to take anymore of the contaminants.

Piercy is hopeful the 970 bags of PCB contaminated soil will be shipped out of the community.

Some of the bags have been sitting at the old chopper pad for two years.

Piercy says there is still some metal debris that will be left in the community.

The town is waiting for word back from the province as to when the barge will arrive for the contaminants.
