Family Literacy Day Celebrated Across Canada

Parents and community residents were invited to the Jens Haven Memorial Primary School Friday morning to celebrate Family Literacy Day.

Sue Webb is the Principal of the school.

She says Family Literacy Day has been recognized across Canada since 1999.

The day raises awareness on the importance of reading both in the schools and at home.

Around 25 parents and residents joined the students at the primary school this morning to celebrate Family Literacy Day.

Our very own Mitchell White was invited as a special guest to read Robert Munsch’s book ‘Give Me Back My Daddy’ to the children.

The story is based on a little girl and her father who go on a strange ice fishing trip outside of Rigolet.

Munsch travelled to the community last spring to launch his work.

Webb says she would like to thank everybody who came out and helped the children realize the importance of reading both at school and at home.
