Energy Efficiency Program Begins in Rural Labrador Communities (Audio)

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro will begin carrying out its energy efficiency program in north coast communities this week.

Simone Brown, NL Hydro’s Energy Efficiency Manager, says the Isolated Systems Community Energy Efficiency Program will educate consumers on how to be more energy-efficient.

The three-year program is being offered to communities across Newfoundland and Labrador that rely on diesel-powered generators.

Those communities in Labrador will see the program carried out during the first year.

Products that increase energy efficiency within the community’s households will also be provided therough the program.

Here is an easy solution, have all of the stove oil tanks removed, and install electric heaters in all of the houses. Expensive immediate cost, long term financial savings for hydro and consumers. Eliminates the big old furnaces, having to bleed the furnace lines, delivery, self refueling etc, furnace vents in the floors, filter replacing etc. etc. etc. Torngat Housing is converting, why not have all of the houses converted?
