Athletes Wanted for National Aboriginal Volleyball Competition

Aboriginal volleyball players are invited to try out for the 2012 Aboriginal National Invitational Volleyball Championships.

John Andersen is the Recreation Director in Makkovik.

He says they’re looking for 17-year-old aboriginal volleyball players to compete in the tournament.

The 2012 Aboriginal National Invitational Volleyball Championships is being held in Cornwall, Ontario at the end of July.

They’re looking for at least 12 male athletes and 12 female athletes to make up two teams.

They’ll be competing against other aboriginal teams from across Canada.

Andersen says tryouts will be held in Nain this weekend.

Four coaches will be making the selections.

Funding for athletes to travel to Nain for the tryouts is being covered by the Torngat Recreation Commission.

The deadline to apply is this Friday.

You can contact Andersen or Nain’s Recreation Director, Lisa Ivany, for more information.
