Yvonne Jones has stepped down as leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The MHA for the Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair District made the announcement in St. John’s on Tuesday.
Jones stated that she is only stepping down as the leader of the party and not from politics altogether.
Jones made the hard decision so she can deal with her ongoing health problems.
The MHA has been battling breast cancer for over a year.
Jones was the first ever female leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The party has already rolled out the selection process to find a new leader.
And she (Yvonne Jones) is also coming to Nain next week (Tuesday).
