Some Great Direction Given For Nunatsiavut Fishery (Audio)

Some great direction was given during a workshop on Nunatsiavut’s crab and char fishery last week.

The meetings were held in Nain by the Torngat Joint Fisheries Board.

Dave Bonell is the board’s Chairperson.

He says representatives of their board, the provincial and Nunatsiavut governments, and the Torngat Fish Producers Cooperative joined fish
harvesters for the discussion.

The workshops focused on the state and future of the crab and char fisheries.

Bonell says the group gave direction to the Nunatsiavut government to develop a working group with fish harvesters.

This group will look for ways to better the business component of the industry.

Another item that came out of the meetings was a partnership with OKâlaKatiget’s radio department.

They will be working with representatives of the board to develop a weekly program devoted to fish and wildlife issues.
