Schools Stand Up to Bullying

Today is the day school communities across the province take a stand against bullying and harassment.

Anti-Bullying Day is also celebrated in schools across Canada.

Jacob Larkin is the principal for Jens Haven Memorial School (JHMS) in Nain.

He says the school held an assembly in the school gym this morning.

The assembly was open to the public.

The guest speaker was Sergeant Richard White of the RCMP. And Principal Larkin spoke as well.

Four videos were played to raise awareness against bullying.

In 2012 JHMS was awarded Safe and Caring Schools Special Project Awards for their efforts to promote safe and caring learning environments.

In Postville at BL Morrison School the students had lunch at school followed by a fire pit where the students roasted marshmallows.

There were also presentations from the RCMP and Department of Health and Social Development.

To end it off they all signed an Anti-Bullying Agreement.

The school handed out pink T-shirts to the students.

Students at each school were asked to wear Pink T-Shirts.

Schools in Hopedale, Makkovik, and Rigolet could not be reached regarding their Anti-Bullying Day plans at this time.
