Remembering Regula Schule (Audio)

Regula Schule from Happy Valley Goose Bay originally from Lake Zurich, Switzerland, passed away in the early morning hours of July 24th, 2016.

Schule wanted to become a missionary, and became one in 1968 at the age of 40, as she wanted to do something for Jesus Christ.

While searching, Schule had two positions offered to her, one in Africa and one in Labrador; she chose Africa, but learned that a local woman teacher was hired in Africa, and so she ended up in Makkovik for the Moravian mission.

While in Makkovik she taught Inuit children in English; since Regula was the only trained teacher there, she was named the Principal there- for four years.

After her position in Makkovik, she then got a new job at North West River as a special needs teacher for the Grenfell mission.

While in North West River, she met a girl who had fetal alcohol syndrome, and she stole Regula’s heart and so Regula adopted her. Susie is now 46 years old.

While in NWR, she not only taught, she also preached in church services.

Regula then moved to HVGB and retired in 1988 when she was 60 years old.

Since Regula lived in HVGB volunteered her time for her community; she helped the homeless and unemployed people, counselled inmates at the Labrador Correctional Center, visited patients at the hospital, preached at the church, gave bible studies, had her own food bank, and did countless other heart warming gestures.
