The 17th Annual Bernard and Jeffrey Webb Memorial Tournament is quickly approaching.
The tournament is scheduled to start on February 16th, 2018.
As of today, there is one team from Nain registered.
The deadline has been extended to February 12, 2018, so you still have time to register your team.

A Pancake Breakfast in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL will be held on February 13th, 2018.
Sharon Edmunds is the Team Leader for the Department of Health and Social Development in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
She says the pancake breakfast will start from 6:30 to 8:30 in the morning at the College of the North Atlantic.
Edmunds says they will be serving pancakes, sausages, coffee, juice, tea, fruit and muffins.
She says they will be raising monies for the homelessness in their community.
And its only five dollars a plate, so come on down and have a good pancake breakfast for a good cause.

A Youth Symposium will be held in Makkovik in March.
Mary (Binky) Andersen is one of the organizers for the gathering.
She is looking for youth who are interested in being a part of a temporary standing committee whose purpose is to engage and plan the upcoming Youth Symposium.
The primary responsibility of the committee is to ensure that the symposium is “youth led for the youth”, and that the symposium is successful, with a vision for the future.

The Academy Canada’s Nain Campus will be holding an Open House on Monday, February 12th.
This event will discuss information on Adult Basic Education and how people would like to get their high school diploma.
If you would like to learn more about attending the Adult Basic Education Program, you are welcome to attend this open house.
This event will take place at the Atsanik Lodge.
Construction of the new homes in Nain has been completed.
OK Radio spoke with William Lucy, the coordinator for Torngat Regional Housing Association.
Lucy says that all the new homes have been completed, and everyone has moved in.
In Hopedale, there was one house completed before Christmas, and that person has moved in.
There should be another home finished by the end of this week.
And there are two more homes yet to be finished.
In Postville, all the construction workers have been laid off for the winter season.
Makkovik is finished as well, and the workers are all laid off.
And in Rigolet, all the construction workers have also been laid off, and will continue on in the spring.
The Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is looking for volunteers to help file simple tax returns for people in their community.
The CVITP has been helping individuals with a modest income and a simple tax situation prepare their income tax and benefit returns, for free, since 1971.
Last tax-filing season, more than 16,500 CVITP volunteers helped more than 702,000 individuals in communities across the country.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, 310 volunteers registered with the CVITP and helped more than 8,300 individuals file their tax returns.

The Nunatsiavut Inuktitut Teachers on the north coast went to kuujjuaq recently.
Christine Nochasak is the Inuktitut Program Specialist for the Eastern Labrador School Board.
She says the Nunatsiavut teachers mainly went to kuujjuaq to see how the kuujjuaq Inuktitut teachers teach in their community.
Nochasak says from kindergarten to grade 12, all the students speak only in Inuktitut.

The Department of Health and Social Development (DHSD) in Nain is looking for 10 youth aged 16 to 30 interested in attending an Igluvigak (Snowhouse) making event.
The event will include learning how to make an Igluvigak, boil up, gathering to tell stories of healthy living, living smoke free, dangers and effects of smoking, how our ancestors didn’t smoke, and games.
You can also bring your sled for sliding and prizes.
The Polar Bear on the Rock story will be told as well.
The event will take place at the Mount Sophie area, on Saturday, February 10, 2018, starting at 9 am.
The Community is also welcome to attend.

Pauktuutit is coming to Nain, NL for a discussion on Inuit women’s safety from violence.
All Inuit women over the age of 18 are welcome to attend the discussion.
They will have door prizes and refreshments.
Please note: For anyone who would prefer meeting privately, they are pleased to meet one-on-one.
Pauktuutit will be in Nain from February 12th to 15th.
Pauktuutit is also accepting men from anywhere in the Nunatsiavut region to come to Nain for training on tools that can help you support the healing of Inuit men and boys in your community.
The men’s training is taking place from 9 am to 5 pm, February 13 and 14th, at the Nunatsiavut Government building boardroom.
