Team Indigenous left from Nain, NL to head to Deer Lake, NL on March 14, 2018 to compete in the 2018 Winter Games.

Yesterday, the four boys from Nain won the silver medal in table tennis.

Also yesterday, the girls division did great as well- they did not lose a match.

Unfortunately, they lost the team competition by default, because they didn’t have any girls on their team that are age 17 or older.

Flowers says if one girl 17 or older had been there with them, they could have easily won the gold medal.

This morning at 9 am, the competition started with the under-14 year old round robin.

Samira Kolmiester and Madison Dicker each won the four games that they played in the individual female competition.

They are first in their division, and are waiting for crossovers.

Tyson Dicker also won the four games that he played.

He is first in his division as well, and is also currently waiting for crossovers.

The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum invites everyone in Nain, NL to come see photographs of embroideries and drawings in their collections.

Susan Kaplan is the Director and Professor of Anthropology with The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum and Arctic Studies Center.

She would like to consult with the community about collaborative projects and exhibits using these collections of Nain Embroideries and Children’s Drawings.

Kaplan says that she will be at the NG Admin Building Boardroom on Tuesday, March 20th at 10 am and 2 pm.

And then again on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 10 am, 2 pm and 7 pm.

Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC) will be travelling to each of the Nunatsiavut Communities.

Sarah Leo is the Vice- President of Corporate Development with NGC.

Information sessions will start in Rigolet on March 20, 2018 at 12:00 pm at the Seniors’ Building; Lunch will be provided.

Also, at Makkovik on March 20 at 7:00 pm at the Old Community Hall, and refreshments will be provided.

At Postville on March 21 at 12:00 pm at the Community Centre Boardroom. Lunch will be provided.

In Hopedale at 7:00 pm at the Nanuk Centre. Refreshments will be provided.

In Nain on March 22 at 7:00 pm at the Nunatsiavut Government boardroom. Refreshments will be provided.

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated annually on March 17, the anniversary of the Saint’s death in the fifth century.

The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years.

On St. Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon.

Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived, and people would dance, drink and feast on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

According to the Air Inuit website, the first special flight is scheduled for Thursday, March 29, 2018.

The first Air Inuit flight will depart from Kuujjuaq at 8:25 am, and then arrive in George River at 9:05 am.

It will then depart again at 9:20 am.

Air Inuit will arrive in Nain at 11:45 am, and then depart at 12 noon.

The second flight is scheduled for Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

The flight will depart from Kuujjuaq at 8:25 am, and then arrive in George River at 9:05 am.

It will then depart again at 9:20 am.

The flight arrives in Nain at 11:45 am, and then departs at 12 noon.

The Annual Makkovik Jamboree is only two days away.

The jamboree will be an exciting one, because it is their 25th annual event.

Linda Pottle is the Team Leader for the Department of Health and Social Development (DHSD).

She says there are invited guests from out of town who will be entertaining, plus local singers.

Pottle says there will be appreciation certificates given to people as an acknowledgement award, and T- shirts with the 25th Annual logo.

They also have a door prize, an airline ticket for two to travel to Goose Bay, NL from Air Borealis.

She says the Inuit Community Government came up with doing a presentation award by nominating a Band, which will be now be an annual event.

The Makkovik Trust Fund and DHSD are the sponsors.

They also helped out to make the event happen.

The Department of Health and Social Development in Nain will be hosting a Health Fair on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Jeremias Sillitt Center from 12 noon to 4 pm.

A meal consisting of soup and chili will be provided from 12 pm to 1:30 pm, and healthy snacks will be provided throughout the afternoon.

Everyone who attends will have a chance to win one of three food boxes, and a variety of other great prizes.

You do not have to be present to win.

There will also be displays on a variety of different health topics.

They look forward to seeing you all there.

The Nunatsiavut Government’s 2018- 2019 Budget was released last week.

Tyler Edmunds is the Minister of Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology for NG.

He says the budget also included funds for Health and Well Being, plus Land and its Natural Resources.
