Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

– Identifying story ideas and conducting research
– Operating camera, lighting and audio equipment
– Planning and conducting interviews and sources
– Outlining and writing scripts for editing
– Transcribing
– Digitally editing film on Avid software

VOCM and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation will unite Tuesday with the Village Mall to host a Cancer Care Radiothon on the VOCM – Big Land FM Radio Network from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The broadcast will be taking donations and raising funds for care centres in St. John’s, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor and Corner Brook, NL, as well as chemo delivery sites around the province.

Funds raised will stay in the province, and go toward purchasing cancer treatment equipment, comfort equipment like blanket warmers, and support programs to assist cancer patients and their families.

Newfoundland and Labrador has the highest incidence rate of cancer in Canada.

One in three people are diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.

Plus the incidence rate of cancer will increase to 58 percent in the next 15 years.

Again, the Cancer Care Radiothon goes tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the VOCM – Big Land FM Radio Network.

The Nunatsiavut Government, in partnership with the Marine Institute, will be offering a char net and mending course.

The course will take place over 2 to 3 days in Nain, starting May 7, 2018.

Please note that first priority goes to char fishers.

After that, the course is open to others who are interested.

The Nunatsiavut Elections Officer advises that Mr. Roy Blake has withdrawn as a candidate for the 2018 election for Ordinary Member for the Constituency of Upper Lake Melville as of yesterday.

As the ballots for the election have already been prepared, Mr. Blake’s name will still appear on the ballots.

In accordance with s. 36 of the Nunatsiavut Elections Act, the Returning Officer for Upper Lake Melville will ensure that notices of Mr. Blake’s withdrawal are posted in each polling station, and will advise each voter when receiving their ballots on voting day that Mr. Blake is no longer a candidate.

The 34th Annual Hopedale Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Volleyball Tournament will be starting tomorrow evening at 6 pm.

There are 14 female teams and 10 male teams entered, with two divisions each.

The starting teams are required to be ready to start at 6 pm.

No times have been given for the games on the schedule.

Games will roll from one into the next. A 5 minute warm up time will be provided from the end of the last game. After 5 minutes, a forfeit will be entered for the team not ready to play.

Teams must have 4 players to start game the game. If neither team is ready, then neither team will be awarded the win.

It is the team’s responsibility to ensure that they follow the schedule and are present and ready to play.

The referee will wait only 5 minutes before calling a forfeit and moving on to the next game.

Women’s Games are starting at 6 pm at the Nanuk Centre with Nakkovik Team (mixed team) vs. what are You Gonna Do about It (Hopedale Team).

This year, ages 5 and up will have to pay a one dollar admission fee; this will go toward their church.

There will also be a canteen.
