Provincials

The Jens Haven Memorial Huskies recently won the 3A/4A Regional Volleyball tournament that was held in Sheshatshui.

Julie Dicker is the Coach for the JHMS Huskies.

Dicker says 8 boys and 8 girls from the team will be heading out to the provincials.

The provincials will be taking place in Gander, Newfoundland.

Athletes will be competing in two different schools at the Academy school and the Gander Collegiate School.

Huskies will be leaving their hometown on December 5th, 2019 and they will be returning back on December 9th, 2019.

There are four chaperones traveling with the Huskies; including Dicker, another teacher and two other chaperones.

Dicker added that there will be an advent sale this Saturday, November 30th, 2019 and funds from the sale will go towards the Nain Huskies.

The advent sale will be located at the Jeremias Sillitt Community Centre at 12:00 noon.

Labrador Schools Ready For Christmas

It’s that time of the year when students from the North Coast Schools are gearing up to entertain the communities with their Christmas Concerts.

We spoke to all the principals from the North Coast communities.

Each year, students are dismissed on the same date for their Christmas Holidays.

And this year, the dates are from December 20th, 2019 until January 6th, 2020.

Here are the dates for the Christmas concerts for along the coast.

The B.L. Morrison School in Postville will be holding their Christmas concert on December 19th, 2019 at 6:30 pm and they will also be holding a Christmas fair this Saturday November 30th, 2019.

In Makkovik, the J.C. Erhardt Memorial School will be holding their concert on December 16th, 2019 at 6:30 pm and will be having their Christmas jingle this Saturday, November 30th at 2 pm.

On December 11th, 2019 the Amos Comenius Memorial School in Hopedale will be holding their Christmas concert.

The Northern Lights Academy School in Rigolet are having their concert on December 13th, 2019.

And the Jens Haven Memorial School here in Nain will be holding their concert on December 18th, 2019.

Christmas Turkey Drive

There will be an Annual Christmas Turkey Drive in Happy Valley on December 12th, 2019 from 6 to 9 am on the front lawn of the CBC station.

Drop off your turkey or donation for the Community Food Sharing Association and enjoy a hot beverage, great conversation and more.

Santa Letters

It’s that time of year again for children to write letters to Santa Claus.

We’ve spoke to Joey Tremblett from the Post Office in Happy Valley Goose Bay.

Children can write their own letters and drop them off to their local post office.

Everyone who writes to Santa will get a reply back.

Advent Tree Lighting

The annual Christmas tree lighting will be held in Nain this Sunday, December 1st, 2019.

Carla Pamak is the Chairperson for Ullapitsaijet steering committee.

She says the tree lighting will take place in front of the Nunatsiavut Government Building, starting at 6:30 pm.

Pamak says if the weather permits they will be serving hot chocolate and Timbits.

The Nain Brass Band will perform and there will be people singing carols.

Pamak says the Christmas tree is lighted on the First Advent Sunday, because it is the start of the Christmas season, and First Advent is celebrated on the north coast of Labrador.

She says it will remain lit till Nalujuit Night on Monday, January 6th, 2020.

Pamak hopes the community will come out and witness the tree lighting and enjoy carol singing.

Advent Stories (Audio)

Advent 1 is this Sunday and everyone is getting all prepared for the special day.

OKâlaKatiget Society recorded some Elders over the years on what they remember about growing up Advent time.

Today, we will air John Jararuse, Gordon Obed and Elizabeth Ittulak of Nain.

As well as Katie Winters who will be reading about the Advent Star and Sabina Lidd singing a Christmas carol for Advent.

The IlinniaKatigennik Show will be back on air after the Christmas Holidays on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.

Kamutik W Update (Audio)

In this statement it says: That the Kamutik W left Goose Bay with the remaining north coast food shipment that evening.

OK Radio Spoke with Dennis White who is the Vice President of Woodwards Group of Companies.

He said that the vessel carried a full load of 55 containers and 1200 pallets.

The remaining freight at the terminal in Goose Bay is general cargo, consisting of items such as building supplies and snowmobiles.
