Polar Kills

The Polar Bear hunting season opened to Nunatsiavut beneficiaries on February 4th, 2019.

Todd Broomfield is the Director of Renewable Resources for Nunatsiavut Government.

He says three polar bears been harvested so far.

Ghetto Rich of Rigolet had his polar bear kill, Andy Andersen from Makkovik and Eva Obed of Nain.

Broomfield says there are nine more polar bear licences available.

He added there were two dead Caribou found in the Nain Area sometime last week.

Broomfield says the two caribou were found down Rhodes Island which is fifteen minutes away from Nain.

He says the caribou had been hit by an avalanche.

Broomfield says Nain’s Conservation Officer, Simon Kohlmeister had a permit from the Wildlife Officers to take these two caribou.

He adds that the two caribou were put in the Nain Community freezer.
