OKâlaKatiget Radio-Conducted Poll Puts Presidential Candidate Lampe in the Lead

With a little over a week left before a new President of Nunatsiavut is chosen, OKâlaKatiget Radio decided to conduct a poll within the Nunatsiavut and Upper Lake Melville communities.

Our staff contacted 60 random beneficiaries in the Nunatsiavut communities, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and North West River on Thursday.

The participants were selected at random from the phone book.

The number of people contacted in each of the communities was based on their respected populations.

We asked all of the willing participants three questions: Are you aware of the upcoming election? Are you going to vote? Who are you voting for?

92 percent of the people we polled say they are aware that an election is taking place.

91 percent of the people said they were planning to vote come Election Day.

30 percent of the people we polled said they were voting for Johannes Lampe.

He had the most support from the people we contacted in Nain and Hopedale.

22 percent of the people stated that they were voting for Sarah Leo.

She had the most support from Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Postville.

The remaining communities were split evenly between the two candidates.

16 percent of the people we polled refused to disclose their choice.

The remaining 32 percent said they were still undecided.

Nunatsiavut beneficiaries head to the polls to select a new president on Monday, June 11.
