Okak 100 Year Commemorations

It has been 100 years since the Spanish Flu Tragedy, 206 of 263 people died from the Spanish Flu in Okak.

On September 24-27, the Nunatsiavut Government will be holding an event bringing descendants back to Okak for the 100-year anniversary to provide an opportunity for families to connect, heal, acknowledge, and celebrate the history of the community of Okak.

At this event, there will be:
• Art as healing workshop
• Hunting Trips
• The Brass Band
• Day Trip to nearby traditions camps
• Etc.

They will travel to Okak on ling liners and speed boats.

The deadline to apply for this wonderful opportunity is on Sunday, August 18, 2019.
