NGC Planning on Busy Spring and Summer

The Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC) has a lot on the go these days.

NGC held a meeting recently and several topics were discussed.

James Thorbourne is the NGC President and CEO.

According to Thorbourne, NGC is planning on building a hotel in Nain on the former caribou plant site.

NGC has already purchased the Community Centre building and land.

They are planning on using the land for parking for the new hotel.

NGC is also planning on taking over the Bank of Montreal from Canada Post.

They are currently looking for a suitable location for the bank, with the most likely location being 12 Sandbanks Road.

Thorbourne says that 25 blocks will be transported from Ten Mile Bay to market this summer.

NGC is trying to find a market for non-uniform and fractured material currently on-site.

If that happens, some work will be available this summer.

NGC is also expecting to operate the Hopedale Stone Plant to finish products for the Torngasok Cultural Centre in Nain.

There are plans for the rock crusher to operate in Makkovik at the start of the season then move to Nain.

Installation of water and sewer works at the Goose Bay Town Center site is set to continue in May, weather permitting.

There are also plans to put a washing facility at the NGC construction pit in Postville to produce cement.

NGC Nunatsiavut marine is looking at purchasing another larger tug than the Kaliutik, to work in the Bull Arm facility near St. John’s.

Thorbourne adds that the Torgat Mountains Base Camp will be open again this season by mid-July, weather permitting.
