Nain power outage

A power outage occurred in Nain yesterday, and residents were left with no explanation on what happened, this outage affected the whole town of Nain.

According to the NL Hydro website, the report states that they still have an outage right now; this outage is being experienced in Nain located on Nanuk Road.

They also say as a result of the outage in Nain this is yet to be determined by Hydro crew members, and they have to send in crew members to restore the issue.

A Facebook message from a Nain resident said last evening Feb 10, that from NL Hydro that almost all customers were restored with the exception of about 40 residents who will need to remain off overnight, hydro crew will be out at first light if the weather improves.

Also today for now due to bad weather on the north coast, it is uncertain if the crew will come into Nain.

In the meantime, we also spoke with Lisa Ivany who is a resident on Nanuk Street.

She says she opened the Jeremias Sillett Community Center this morning at 8:30am for her fellow Inuit who are struggling with the power outage on her street and facing the cold temperatures and who may not have the ability to cook up warm meals.

Ivany made some panitsiak and boiled water for tea or Coffee to those who are in need.

There is also internet at the JC and a TV to watch, and board games, if anyone is in need of any help please call the JC at JS 922-2691.
