Nain Parenting Groups

There are two Parenting groups held in Nain, one is involved with the Child Youth and Family Services and the other is involved with the Department of Health and Social Development.

The Aboriginal Parenting Group with CYFS held their first parenting group session on October 2, 2014.

We spoke with Henry Broomfield the Family Intervention Worker.

Broomfield says this is a 16 week program, and should be finished by Christmas.

There are 10 parents in total, and each session is held Thursday evenings at 6:30pm for 2 hours.

He says again this year they partnered with DHSD and hold their sessions once a week at the DHSD building.

Elsie Russell, Henry Broomfield and Mandy Harmon are the Instructors.

The other parenting group is held by the DHSD Parenting Education Program with Lisa Dicker.

She says this is 6 weeks duration, held every Thursdays from 1:30-3pm.

Dicker says so far they have one person involved in the program.

This PEP is for parents, mothers and single parents.

During this program parents will learn how to budget, food menus, home care, family care and much more.

Tea and coffee will be served during each program, for more information you can contact Lisa Dicker, Shirley Jararuse or Don Dicker Jr at 922-2126.
