Museum Site in Hopedale

David Igloliorte is the site manager for the Moravian Church complex in Hopedale for the Hopedale Inuit Community Government and funded by the Nunatsiavut Government.

Igloliorte says that he is preparing for this year’s tourist season.

He adds that in the past three to five years he has seen an average of one hundred and fifty to two hundred visitors come through Hopedale.

Last year the cruise ship Adventure Canada had 200 tourists aboard the ship.

Igloliorte says that he is expecting two cruise ships this summer.

There are many activities planned for this summer according to Igloliorte.

Canada 150 celebrations are being prepared, the Moravian Church in Hopedale is celebrating its 200th anniversary in August.

There will be summer students hired to dig up sites at the old Apvitok site were sod houses once stood.

We hope to learn more about the activities planned for Hopedale for this summer sometime next week.
