ITK AGM Update with Natan Obed (Audio)

Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) recently held their Annual General Meeting in Kuujjuaq, Quebec.

OK Radio spoke with ITK’s President Natan Obed about what was discussed at the meeting.

Obed says that the people attending were originally supposed to meet in Salluit in Nunavik, but weather conditions were not too good.

Some topics discussed at the meeting included implementation of the Strategic Plan, Suicide Prevention Plan, housing, a unified writing system, and other topics.

Johannes Lampe, President of the Nunatsiavut Government, Ordinary Member for Nain Richard Pamak, and Minister of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, and Ordinary Member for Nain, Sean Lyall, were in attendance representing the Nunatsiavut Government.

Obed adds ITK is also going to be working towards the next National Inuit Heath Survey.

The last survey happened in 2007 and 2008, and there’s a call for them to find the funds to make it an ongoing health survey.
