Forest Fire Updates for Friday, June 22

Eric Young, the Provincial Duty Fire Officer says that since yesterday they have now down-graded to only two priority fires.

These fires include the fire just outside of NWR and the fire outside of Charlotte town.

These fires are approximately 10-12 kilometers away from the communities.

Young says that there is still an evacuation alert for Sheshashi and NWR.

He  adds that the weather has been cooperative since yesterday and has made a huge difference in the conditions of the fires.

The fire in Natuashish is now considered ‘contained’, so much so that they don’t even have crews there today as there are no hot spots, but the Natuashish fire is not considered out yet.

They do hope that within the next couple of days,  depending on the weather  they will be able to declare that fire out .

Crews   will still monitor the Natuashish community over the next couple of days.
