Delay in Construction of Assembly Building in Hopedale

A construction problem with one of the features of the Nunatsiavut Government Assembly Building may cause a delay in the facility’s grand opening.

Brian Flowers is the Property Manager for the Nunatsiavut Government.

He says the metal roofing being used for the dome of the building isn’t fitting correctly.

Two experts from outside of the country are scheduled to go into Hopedale and examine the problem.

The grand opening of the Assembly Building was scheduled for September 12.

Flowers says it is likely that the opening will not take place on that date.

He adds that the facility as a whole is around 95 percent complete.

There is still painting, plastering, electrical and mechanical work to be completed.

All’s I got to say, is that for a building that is only going to be used by the Assembly Members a few times a year, the NG better be spending our royalities for infrastructure wisely. Because that whole Stock Market fiasco didn’t play out too smoothly. This Assembly Building better be an eye pleaser, becuase NG sure didn’t put any creative thought into the main NG Building.

Staying on topic with infrastructure (NG Building, NG Assembly Building and the up-coming Torngasok Building), I can bet you the monies NG lost in the Stock Market, that their next main objective is to start constructing buildings in the Park. Because since the Park opened, this has been NG’s main priority over everything else, or so it seems, IMO.
