Base Camp Closed for 2021

An Inuit homeland, one of the last untamed, unspoiled places left on the planet. Comprised of 9,700 square kilometres of spectacular wilderness, the Torngat Mountains National Park stretches from Saglek Fjord to the Northern tip of Labrador, and Westward from the Atlantic seacoast to the Québec border.

In partnership with the Nunatsiavut Government, Air Borealis and the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies will not be opening the Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station (TMBC) for tourism and general visitation during the 2021 season.

The Torngat Mountains Base Camp and Research Station is located on Labrador Inuit Land adjacent to the Southern boundary of the Torngat Mountains National Park.

“The ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis continues to make the safe, practical operation of the Base Camp impossible for tourists and general visitors at this time. Despite this setback, we remain deeply committed to our work with Air Borealis, the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies and Parks Canada towards a sustainable, long-term future for Base Camp that will let visitors and researchers continue to experience our homeland,” says Nunatsiavut’s Minister of Language, Culture and Tourism, Jim Lyall.

Air Borealis and the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies look forward to welcoming visitors to enjoy the upgrades to site facilities, and additional experiences that will continue to exceed guest expectations in 2022.
