Archaeology Masters Student to Conduct Interviews in Nain

Between December 9th and 14th, Meghan Walley, an archaeology Masters student from Memorial University, will be in Nain conducting interviews for her research on the concept of non-binary gender (or third gender) in Inuit tradition.

She will be exploring materials related to shamanism in the archaeological record, since some scholars have suggested that angakkuit might have been third-gender or gender fluid.

She is looking to interview:
• LGBTQ Inuit, and activists of Inuit descent.
• Elders and individuals with knowledge about Inuit angakurniq.
• Artists who deal with themes related to gender and spirituality.
• Anyone of Inuit descent who has input or knowledge they would like to contribute.

An honorarium of $50.00 will be offered to participants in this study.

Since funding is limited, participants will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Interviews will take place at the Research Centre.

For more information, or to set up an interview, email Meghan at mpw272@mun.ca, or contact NG at 922-2942.
