The 35th annual Heritage Dog Team Race will start at 10 am tomorrow in Makkovik.
The dog team racers will take off in the harbour, and travel 22 miles out of the bay.
Rachael Edmunds is on the organizing committee.
She says there were going to be 10 dog team racers taking part.
But 4 teams have backed out- three from Mudlake, and one from Rigolet.
So the remaining racers include two dog teams from Hopedale and 4 from Makkovik.
Edmunds says the winner’s prizes are $1500.00 for first, $1000.00 for second, and $700.00 for third.
There is an additional prize of $400.00 for each racer that participates.
Edmunds says the fundraising committee received an Air Labrador ticket, and they sold tickets from that to raise money for the first place winner.
Edmunds added there were no responses from former race supporters Vale, Woodward’s, and the Provincial Government this year.
