World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day is an opportunity for those who’ve experienced suicide attempts or loss to join together to promote understanding about suicide and highlight effective prevention activities.

We contacted the DHSD offices in each community to see what activities they have planned for this event.

Yesterday we had the activities for Nain and Makkovik; here are the activities for Hopedale, Postville, and Rigolet.

Frances Boas is the Mental Health Worker with DHSD in Hopedale.

She says starting at 6:30pm, there will be a Motivational Speaker presented by Lito Libre followed by an Ice Breaker at 7:30 at the Nanuk Centre.

Kayla Andersen, Community Health Worker in Postville.

She says everyone is asked to meet at the DHSD at 7pm tonight, they will be going around town, and meeting back at the DHSD.

A movie night will also be held for youth ages 14 and up featuring The Grizzlies.

Andersen adds that candles will be given out at the DHSD throughout the day until 4:30 pm.

Pam Campbell is the Mental Health and Addictions Worker in Rigolet.

She says everyone is asked to meet at the playground at 6pm this evening.

They will walk to the net loft, return to the playground and gather to have some refreshments; candles will also be lit at 8pm in their windows.
