Alex Saunders from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL received an award this weekend in Labrador City.

Saunders says this award was called the Lawrence Jackson Writer`s Award.

The award encourages and promotes original, creative thought in all styles of writing.

Saunders says he started writing a book about his fishing life, and that’s why he got this award.

He adds Bailey White from CBC`s Labrador Morning presented the award to him.

Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement will head to the polls tomorrow, May 1, 2018 to elect Ordinary Members to the Nunatsiavut Assembly.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time.

The Nunatsiavut Government is encouraging Beneficiaries to vote in the general elections.

Ordinary Members are chosen from the Constituencies of Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Makkovik, Rigolet, Upper Lake Melville and Canada.

Two seats are available in Nain, Upper Lake Melville and Canada, while one seat is available in all other Constituencies.

Every Beneficiary 16 years of age and older on polling day is qualified to vote.

In order to vote in a polling station in a Constituency, a Beneficiary must be an ordinary resident of that constituency.

There are two Cruise Ships visiting Hopedale on July 28 and Sept 29, 2018.

Tourism Nunatsiavut is offering Cruise Ship Port Readiness Training in Hopedale on May 2 & 3rd, 2018 at the Nunatsiavut Assembly Building.

The Department of Health and Social Development (DHSD) will be hosting a Spring Boil-Up today in Nain on the ice near the ball field from 3 pm until 6 pm.

They will be having a wiener and marshmallow roast with tea and hot chocolate, and you are asked to please bring your own stick.

There will also be games as well.

Games include a Running Race, Snowshoe Race, and a Sled Race.

You are asked to please bring your own snow shoes.
