A food security strategy is being developed in Nunatsiavut.
Kristeen McTavish is the Food Security Coordinator for the Nunatsiavut Government.
McTavish says she is working with different research partners, and they will be helping her out with the project.

Jens Haven Memorial School has arranged for Jacinta Charlton Photography to do school pictures this year.
Due to the lateness in the school year, they will not be able to provide the traditional school picture packages.
Ms. Charlton will provide a digital copy of your child’s school photos, either through email or DVD (whichever you prefer).
The process will be a little different as well.
There is a specific schedule of days and times for each grade.
The sitting fee and the digital copy will be required at the photo session.
Any child having their picture taken must bring an order form and payment on the day of picture-taking.
Below is the schedule for picture days:
Monday, May 7th: Morning- Kindergarten and Grade 1
Tuesday, May 8th Morning- Grades 2 and 3
Afternoon- Grade 4 and 5
Wednesday May 9th Morning- 6 and 7
Afternoon- Grades 8,9, and 10

Mother’s Day is just a little over a week away.
OK Radio contacted all of the Department of Health and Social Development’s (DHSD’s) along the coast to see what they will be offering the mothers in their communities.
In Goose Bay, they will be having a Mother’s Day Tea Drop-In for mothers only on Friday, May 11 at the DHSD on 14 Corte Real Road, beginning at 1 pm.
Transportation is also provided upon request.
In Rigolet, the DHSD will host a Mother’s Day barbeque at the community hall on May 11th at 12 noon.
The meal will consist of barbecued chicken and salads on the side; dessert will be given out to the mothers as well.
A slideshow will be running, and the mothers will also be given a pair of breast cancer socks; there will be games to play too.
In Makkovik, the DHSD will have a Mother’s Day dinner at 12 noon on Friday, May 11th as well.
It will be held at the Community Hall.
All mothers, grandmothers and children are welcome to attend.
OK Radio staff attempted to contact Postville, Hopedale and Nain, but were unable to reach anyone at this time.

Torngat Regional Housing Association is looking for two Labourers to clean up the warehouse in Nain.
The deadline to apply is today, May 4, 2018.
Interested parties must submit their resumes to the Nain Local Housing Committee.
The OKâlaKatiget Society contacted North Coast communities to see what they offer in their community freezer.
In Rigolet, they have polar bear meat, partridges, squash berries, and moose meat.
Postville’s freezer has char and cod.
Hopedale’s freezer has moose meat and their pantry has sugar, teabags, flour and canned foods.
In Nain, there is only seal meat at the moment.
May 1, 2018 was general elections day for voting for Ordinary Members in the communities of Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Rigolet, Upper Lake Melville (ULM) and Canada.
Jim Lyall and Tony Andersen were elected for the Constituency of Nain.
Both have served previously as Ordinary Members, with Lyall being a past president of Nunatsiavut.
Rachel Saunders was elected for the constituency of Hopedale.
Tyler Edmunds was re-elected as the Ordinary Member for Postville.
Carlene Palliser was elected for the Constituency of Rigolet.
Gerald Asivak and Marlene Winters-Wheeler were elected as the Ordinary Members for ULM.
Edward Blake-Rudkowski was re-elected, and Roland Saunders was elected as ordinary members for the Canadian Constituency. Blake-Rudkowski was previously elected in a by-election.

Graduates along the North Coast are preparing themselves for their proms.
The Jens Haven Memorial School’s (JHMS) prom date is set for May 19, 2018.
There are 17 graduates this year.
In Hopedale, the Amos Comenius Memorial School (ACMS) has their prom date set for June 2.
Seven students will be graduating there.
There are no graduates for the B.L Morrison School (BLM) in Postville.
At JC Erhardt Makkovik (JCEM), there are six graduates; they will not be having a prom, but will hold a graduation ceremony on June 30.
And in Rigolet, the Northern Lights Academy (NLA) has three graduates, and they will have their prom on May 26, 2018.

Nain: Today, Thursday May 3, 2018 at the Nunatsiavut Government Building Board Room at 7 pm.
Two delegates will be elected from each community to attend the Annual General Meeting.
The Annual General Meeting will be held in Hopedale on May 23, 2018 at the Nunatsiavut Assembly Building Board room beginning at 7 pm.

The Nunatsiavut Government is recommending that Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement refrain from harvesting migratory birds in the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area after May 31, 2018.
Based on previous discussions with experienced hunters in Labrador Inuit communities, the Nunatsiavut Government is recommending that the spring harvest be kept to a minimum.
Hunters should exercise good conservation practices and not exceed four (4) Canada geese and eight (8) freshwater ducks and divers per household.
Please keep in mind that this is the mating season, and migratory birds should be harvested accordingly.
Harvesting of Harlequin Duck (Lords and Ladies) is prohibited.
Conservation Officers will be monitoring the harvest of migratory birds.
