Mina Campbell-Hibbs is a resident of North West River.
She goes seal hunting in the spring time, and uses an unâk (harpoon) and naulak (ice chisel) when hunting.
Campbell-Hibbs says there are about four or five youth that go to her home in the evenings and clean sealskins with her.
She says when she’s finished with the sealskin, she tries to make boots out of them.

The Nain recreation department in Nain is holding a Mother’s day bingo at the Jeremias Sillett Community Centre (JSCC) on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at 3 pm.
Lisa Ivany is the Recreation Director.
The cards are $20 each, and there is a $1500 Jackpot to go.
There will also be a door prize of an iPod 6, and five draws for bingo vouchers.
It is open to all women ages 16 plus, and no children are permitted.
Sweets, tea and coffee will be served.
A prize of $200 will be awarded for the best Mother’s Day shirt.

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 13, 2018.
OK Radio contacted all of the Department of Health and Social Development’s (DHSD’s) along the coast to see what they will be offering the mothers in their communities.
In Goose Bay, they will be having a Mother’s Day Tea Drop-In for mothers only on Friday, May 11 at the DHSD on 14 Corte Real Road, beginning at 1 pm.
Transportation is also provided upon request.
In Rigolet, the DHSD will host a Mother’s Day barbeque at the community hall on May 11th at 12 noon.
The meal will consist of barbecued chicken and salads on the side; dessert will be given out to the mothers as well.
A slideshow will be running, and the mothers will also be given a pair of breast cancer socks; there will be games to play too.
In Makkovik, the DHSD will have a Mother’s Day dinner at 12 noon on Friday, May 11th as well.
It will be held at the Community Hall.
All mothers, grandmothers and children are welcome to attend.
The DHSD in Postville will be hosting a Mother’s Day Café on Friday, May 11th at 6:30 pm.
In Hopedale, the DHSD will be having a Brunch consisting of toast, eggs, bacon sausage, etc. at 12 noon on May 14 at the afterschool program building.
Afterwards, the DHSD team will be hosting a spa for the mothers.
In honour of Mother’s Day, Nain DHSD will host a Mother’s Day Dinner on Monday, May 14th from 12 to 1 pm in the DHSD Multi-Purpose Room.
This is for Mothers and Mothers-to-be only, as space is limited.

Nunatsiavut Elections Officer Nannette Blake confirmed today that Tyler Edmunds has been declared elected in the Constituency of Postville, following an official recount last evening of the May 1 general election for Ordinary Member.
Mr. Edmunds received 56 votes, three more than the other electoral candidate, Glen Sheppard.
He will be sworn in as a member of the Nunatsiavut Assembly on May 16, 2018 in Hopedale.
As per the Nunatsiavut Elections Act, an automatic recount is conducted when there are 10 or fewer votes separating the first and second candidates.
No further recounts will be held.
Nunatsiavut Assembly’s spring session is next week in Hopedale.
The sitting is scheduled for Monday, May 14 to Thursday, May 16, 2018.
Monday and Tuesday are training days.
Wednesday features the swearing-in ceremonies.
Wednesday’s agenda items include: Oaths to Office Members, Selection of the First Minister, and Selections of the Ministers, the Speaker, and a Deputy Speaker.

Jamie Brake is the Archeologist for the Nunatsiavut Government.
Proctor says the Heritage Forum planning committee is still making plans.
She adds the main issues on the agenda include language programs, archeology work, and a proposal to make Hopedale a UNESCO Heritage site.

The 2018 Jens Haven Memorial School (JHMS) Science Fair will be going ahead tomorrow, Friday, May 11th from 1 to 3 pm in the school gymnasium.
This event will feature the hard work of our young scientists in grades four, five and six, and will be open to the public.

The 10th Annual CYN and Mr. Volleyball Tournament will be held in Nain on the May 25th weekend.
