Notice of Advance Poll “Councillors”

The Community of Nain notice is hereby given by order of the Returning Officer, Karen Dicker, that an advance poll will be held in the Nain at the Nain Inuit Community Government Office/Meeting Room.

The poll will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019, between hours of 8am-8pm, for the purpose of receiving votes from voters entitled to vote an advance poll.

Notice is further given that the persons nominated as Candidates in the election are:

George Lyall – 34 Ikajuktauvik Road
Duane Metcalfe – 6 Harmony Place

Notice is given to the voters that a Grant of poll has been granted for the election now pending for this community, and that the poll will open on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 8am and close at 8pm at the NICG Office/Meeting Room.

Summer Hours starts today

Summer hours are taking effect for most organizations in Nain today.

OKâlaKatiget called the Nunatsiavut Government, and their summer hours will take effect today.

Their hours will be from 8:30 am to 4 pm.

The Nain Department of Health and Social Development’s summer hours are also in effect today.

Their hours are from 8:30 am to 4 pm.

OKâlaKatiget Society will also start theirs today.

The radio department’s hours are from 9 am to 3:30 pm.

But the host for the 3 to 4 pm show will still be on the air until 4 pm.

The Nain Inuit Community government will also be starting their summer hours today.

Their office hours will be 8:30 am to 4pm.

Nain Town Clean-up

The Recreation Department held a town clean-up here in Nain yesterday.

Lisa Ivany is the Recreation Director for the Nain Inuit Community Government.

She says there were about 70 people involved in cleaning the town.

Ivany says once all the snow is gone there will be another town clean up across where the play ground is.

After School Program

This is the last month of Programs until the 2019-2020 school years for the After School Program, and Night Program held in Nain.

The After School Program has their monthly schedule out for this month.

Today’s After School program starts at 3pm-4:45pm for ages 5-7, and tonight’s Night Program starts at 6pm-8pm for ages 8-12.

There will be a Pizza Party held on Friday June 14, for ages 8-12 during the ASP, and there will be no NP that evening.

Children get to stay through supper for some homemade pizza, and pick up will be at 5:30pm.

The last ASP will be on Thursday, June 27, for ages 5-7 until 2019-2020 school year, and NP will be for ages 8-12 that evening.

Also on Friday, June 28, will be the last AFP for ages 8-12 until 2019-2020 school year, and there will be no NP that evening.

ITK

The Inuit Tapariit Kanadami and Nunatsiavut had a meeting this week in Nain.
Evelyn Papatsi Kublu works with ITK.
She says the purpose of her trip to Nain was to take about the Orthography.
Papatsi Kublu says they want to make sure this orthography that have they been working on and want to make sure it works for each region.
Joan Dicker and Sophie Tuglavina were also there from Nunatsiavut.

TaKuaKautik reminder

For all future food distributions, orders must now be placed by calling the TOLL FREE number 1-709-700-4739 and leaving a message.

You must leave your first and last name and number of people you’re picking up food for. For example; Brenda Jararuse for 5 people.

Only those who place an order two days before the giveaway will be able to pick up a food bag.

Bags must be returned by the week after the food giveaway. We need the bags back before so that we can use the bags to fill with food. If we don’t get bags back, we have no bags to fill.

Giveaways are one day a month only, which is every last Thursday of the month. So, please make every effort to make an order and come by to pick up order.

Town Clean Up/ Property Clean-Up

The Recreation Department in Nain has a Town Clean up and Property clean up for the whole town with prizes to be won.

The property clean up started as of May 28, 2019.

Call 922-2842 to enter your property, properties that have already cleaned up also can enter.

Truck/Car/Ski-doo removal is available.

There are three prizes to be won and they are:

Grocery Hamper valued at $500
Free water and Sewer for a Year: valued at $200
$50 Northern Card

The town clean up will be Sunday June 2, 2019 starting at 2pm until 5pm.

Everyone is asked to meet at the Town dump.

Garbage Bags and Rubber Gloves will be provided.

The prizes to be won for the Town clean up are:
2 draws for Grocery Hampers valued at $250 each
Gift Package of three Bingo cards (2 Recreation and 1 fire department)
Children’s Bike for participants ages 12 and under

Senior’s Van Employment Opportunity

The Nain Inuit Community Government has an employment opportunity as a Seniors Van Driver #2.

The responsibilities for this position are to provide non-emergency transport to senior’s from ages 55 & up mobility-impaired individuals by accommodating wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, and offering safe custom transportation for medical appointments, mission plane, post office, seniors programming and special events.

The work conditions will be as assigned, including some weekends and holidays.

You must also have the ability to safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling and lifting up to 150lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.

The rate of pay for this position is $23.50 per hour, 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday evenings, starting at 5pm and closing at 8pm.
